Edmonton Metropolitan Region

We're building a movement

A huge thank you to everyone that contributed to and attended the 2022 forward/slash Economic Summit

The forward/slash event just got us started.

We are building a coalition of organizations, who already share common goals, and are eager to advance our communities. This is a movement that includes diverse voices at the table working together to achieve a new vision for our regional economy.

Our vision

We're just getting started

forward/slash is bringing the Edmonton region together to unite behind a powerful vision for its economic future.

Transformative change requires collective action.

forward/slash is an opportunity for regional leaders to work together to purposefully, proactively, and inclusively build towards a thriving future for our region’s economy.

What are our focus areas:
  • Where we can work together to support investment attraction, retention, and expansion
  • What regional initiatives are taking place, or should take place, that will strengthen and diversify our region’s economic capacity
  • How we can take our regional strengths aligned with global trends to position the Edmonton Metropolitan Region as an attractive location for business investment

Past Events

On November 16, 2022 Edmonton Global hosted the first forward/slash roundtable event focused on the topic of talent and labour force in the Edmonton region. The purpose of the event was to begin to work together to advance our regional competitiveness by addressing challenges related to talent attraction and retention.

Talent was identified as a critical issue by those surveyed following the forward/slash economic summit, and a large number of regional stakeholders indicated that they want to be actively involved and engaged in working together to address these issues. Local talent retention and attraction were identified as the most important issues to address.

Talent attraction is one of the most critical issues facing companies and investment attraction agencies today

Get involved

Some of the key takeaways we heard were:
- The importance of uniting behind a shared narrativefor our region. The more we are telling the same compelling story about what itis like to live and work here, the more competitive we will be

- Employers need to be innovative and adaptable, looking for ways to bring new people into the workforce

- We need to continue our efforts to attract international students into our post-secondaries and find ways to increase thenumber that stay beyond graduation.
